The Future for African Actions on Sustainable Initiatives is an independent national non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded on 14 February 2003 out of the pressing need to advocate for the rights of vulnerable groups and to address all forms of inequalities and practices that hinder human development.

Formerly, FAASI was called Forum for Activists against HIV/AIDS Scourge (FAAS) but, owing to a decision of the General Assembly, its name changed to The Future for African Actions on Sustainable Initiatives (FAASI). The aim was to become more inclusive and widen the scope of interventions by the organisation.

FAASI is legally operating in Rwanda with a definitive certificate of compliance issued by the Rwanda Governance Board, after fulfilment of all the requirements of compliance to the new law N° 04/2012 of 17 February 2012 governing the organisation and the functioning of national NGOs. The organisation recognised by Ministerial Decree N o 82/11 of 23 June 2004 and published in the Official Gazette nº 06 of 07/02/2022.
